Professional Diploma, Lifting Equipment Technology

The aim of attainment of professional skills in lifting equipment operations at the Gateway Industrial & Petro-Gas Institute is to provide detailed knowledge of various types of lifting equipment, educate on safety regulations and standards as related to lifting equipment operations, teach proper inspection and maintenance procedures to ensure equipment reliability and safety, teach on the correct operational techniques to enhance efficiency and prevent accidents and, of course, development of skills in identifying potential hazards and Implementation of risk management strategies.

The training is well structured for a period of six months (2-months theory class and 4-months hands-on training).

GENERAL COURSE CONTENT FOR PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA Module A: o Lifting equipment safety and communication. o Industrial safety o Communication skills o Workshop technology. o Wire rope o lifting equipment loading

Module B o Industrial Training for a period of six months.

Employment opportunities: Graduates will be employed in Construction, Oil & Gas company, manufacturing and process industries within and outside Nigeria.

Final Award: At the end of the six (6) months programme, after the trainee must have fulfilled all requirement, the trainee will be awarded: - GIPI Professional Diploma in Lifting Equipment Technology, - o Student Membership of ECDMI

Duration: Six (6) Months for Professional Diploma

Entry Requirements: Open to applicants with the following: SSCE, NCE, ND, BSC/HND in Engineering, Sciences, Social Sciences, Art or its equivalent. Applicants must be in good physical condition and have a DRIVER’S license.

Nature of assessment: Trainees are assessed by a combination of methods including: written test/assignments and industrial training assessment and evaluation.
